Mafia
Island is the largest of a small archipelago of islands and atolls and is
truly a paradise in the Indian Ocean.
It is the southern most of three
islands
(Pemba & Zanzibar) located just 12kms off the southern the coast of Tanzania. 130kms from Dar es Salaam, it is reachable by light
aircraft in 35 minutes or 45 minutes from Zanzibar and the Selous Game
Reserve.
Today Mafia is known as a beautiful Indian Ocean tropical resort that
is famous for deep sea fishing and scuba diving. Aquatic life is abundant
and the coral gardens are pristine due to the protection of the Mafia
Island Marine Park. |

The Mafia Island Lodge stands amidst
tall palms on a sandy beach in Chole Bay, in the heart of the marine
park near Utende village on South coast of Mafia.
40 comfortable Twin and Double beds self-contained rooms with
air-conditioning are set among the coconut palms with their own
veranda overlooking the bay.
Among the 40 rooms are 2 family rooms with a large living room. Hot
and cold water is available 24 hours a day.
The main lodge has a relaxing atmosphere with a large open
restaurant, bar and lounge area. Board games, table tennis and
volleyball are also available.
Other facilities include a gift shop, laundry service, excursions,
snorkeling, sailing and scuba diving.
The cuisine is continental with an emphasis on seafood. Snacks,
sandwiches and bitings are also available.. A selection of alcoholic
beverages, wines, beers, juices and sodas are available at the bar.

The lodge Consisting of only seven roomy bungalows with wide
verandas looking onto the sea built entirely out of wood and raised
on stilts to ensure the maximum comfort for the guests.
Each bungalow covers 60 sq m with personalized fixtures and
finishing's. The floors are made out of hard woods (afrormosia, one
of the rarest and valued tropical woods), the furniture from
mahogany and the door and window frames from doussi.
The beds have wooden slats and high quality spring mattresses. All
linen is imported from Italy. Bathrooms have double wash basins,
king-size showers, bidets and toilets

Accommodation is provided in separate cottages that are widely
spaced for total privacy.
We are able to accommodate 28 guests as follows:
A suite with upstairs bedroom, air conditioning, stereo, mini-bar
and lounge, verandahs and terraces
A family bungalow with two bedrooms sharing a bathroom (also
suitable for triple or two singles)
-Eight cottages with very large double beds
-Ten cottages with large single beds (twin/double, as beds can be
moved together)
All cottages are ensuite with hot water and have ample hanging
space, a desk and chair, verandah chairs and table, double chaise
(for full relaxation), full-length mirror, ceiling fan for cool air
and power outlets in the bathroom for hair dryers and electric
shavers. The cottages have walk-in mosquito nets that cover the beds
completely, and have been designed for through-ventilation and
coolness in all seasons.
Cuisine is a mixture of European and Eastern with an emphasis on
seafood, fresh local produce, grills and home-made condiments;
Swahili night is a feature each week |
