NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA
Land of the Maasai of their cattle and the fauna, this protected area
located in the Great Rift Valley, gigantic fracture of the earths
crust. Volcanoes, mountains, lakes, forests and archeological sites
form this magnificent landscape. At 1600m alt, the bottom of the crater
(256kmsq) dotted with watering holes, shelters almost 30,000 animals
in an area naturally enclosed by the slopes of the volcano (the
animals can leave). it is called the eighth wonder of the world.
Best Time: Whole year, rainy season in April.
How To Get There: From Arusha, 4 hrs drive/ 1 hour charter
flight. From Manyara 2 hours drive.
To Do: A trip to Olduvai Gorge ( visit a paleontology museum)
where the Australopithecus Boise's skeleton was discovered.
This ancestor of man, millions of years old. walking safari to maasai
country with donkeys (2 days minimum).
Do Not Miss: A whole day in a crater where the show never
stops.
